Empowering Worcestershire families from pregnancy through the first 1,001 days.

Becoming Families is the only local charity in Worcestershire dedicated to nurturing families from conception until a child’s second birthday - the "first 1,001 days" that define a lifetime.

Founded in 2012 by midwife Helen Hunt and perinatal specialist Jo Lederer, we provide exceptional, needs-driven services that place emotional wellness at the heart of everything we do.

"We recognise that this life-changing time brings challenges, as well as joys and want to be there to prepare you for and to help smooth the transition, giving new families the best possible start".

Why Choose Becoming Families?

Our services are entirely evidence-based and delivered by a multidisciplinary team of experts, including:

  • Practising Midwives and Antenatal Teachers (DipHE)

  • Qualified Breastfeeding Professionals

  • Specialist Physiotherapists

  • Family Support Workers

By combining decades of clinical and community experience, we offer a holistic approach to parental education and wellbeing. We also collaborate closely with statutory agencies and local providers, ensuring that if you need specialized support beyond our scope, we can signpost you to the right place.

Our Mission is:

To provide high-quality educational and support services throughout the critical first 1,001 days, fostering strong parent-infant relationships and lifelong family mental health.

Our Core Values

  • Education: We deliver current, evidence-based knowledge to empower parents to make informed choices about birth and parenting.

  • Support: We create safe, nurturing environments that foster peer connections and emotional wellbeing.

  • Respect: We honour the autonomy of parents, believing that informed adults make the best choices for their unique families.

  • Nurture: We believe that for parents to nurture their infants, they must first be nurtured themselves.
